Google unveiled its latest Google Drive enhancements for enterprise customers on 8/22/17. Some of the new and updated features include Team Drives, and Drive File Stream features powered by the company’s machine intelligence tech.

What is Google Team Drive?

Google Team Drives are shared spaces where teams can store, search, and access their files from any device.

Unlike files in My Drive, new members can be added and provided with instant access to the relevant documents in Team Drive. This reduces the time for new members to ramp up.

The files in Team Drive are owned by the team instead of an individual. So  even if team member leaves, the files stay exactly where they are, so your team can continue to share information and get work done, without missing a step.

Team Drives can be managed by an Administrator. The administrator of the Team Drive can add new members, and manage sharing permissions by defining its restrictions for editing, commenting, reorganizing or deleting files.

Team Drive uses machine learning to help find your files. Quick Access isa feature in the Drive that uses powerful machine learning algorithms to analyze trending topics, team calendars and other contextual information, to identify relevant documents and suggest files to users.

Team Drives is available on G Suite Enterprise, G Suite Business, or G Suite for Education editions.

What is Google File Stream?

Google File Stream allows teams to quickly stream files directly from the cloud to their computer. Therefore all the company data can be accessed directly from your laptop, even if you have limited space on your hard drive.

File Stream allows access, search and manages files on-demand from your computer — in under 30 seconds. This feature allows you to get the files you need and make select files available for offline use later.  Time-consuming file syncing and any concerns about disk space should be a non-issue.

What is Google Jamboard?

As a part of the G Suite offerings, Jamboard is a collaborative space for ideas where the team can sketch ideas, whiteboard-style, on a brilliant 4k display, designed for the way you work. Jamboard combines Google G Suite software with a large-format touchscreen monitor, and is built on a custom version of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system (OS).

With Jamboard’s responsive and accurate display, it feels natural to draw and sketch the way you would on a traditional whiteboard.

Jamboard offers the ability to search and drop images, add notes, pull things directly from the web, and pull in work from Docs, Sheets and Slides from Google Drive.  Team members can  collaborate with each other from anywhere, while using either their phone or tablet. Users log into a Jamboard session via Jamboard itself or on companion Android or iOS apps. While standing at the Jamboard kiosk, users can draw or write on the whiteboard with a passive stylus or with their fingers.

Jamboard is intended for conference rooms or communal areas where collaboration can occur. This business tool is meant to combine video conferencing software with a digital whiteboard to enable local and remote personnel to fully engage and collaborate during meetings.
